If you’re an IKEA fan, then you likely eagerly anticipate the release of the new IKEA catalogue in late August. This is the second year in a row that I’ve blogged about my 20 favourites from the new IKEA catalogue. Last year, I ended up purchasing nearly half of the items in my 2020 round-up. These pieces have made their way into our home and are beautiful and functional pieces we enjoy. In this post, 20 Favourites from the 2021 IKEA Catalogue, I’ve selected the cream of the crop so you don’t have to sort through the nearly 1000 new items just released.
I’ve chosen items that I would use in my own home and that suit my modern farmhouse meets updated traditional style. IKEA can sometimes be very modern or industrial and that’s not really my style. If I do choose an industrial-style piece, then I will mix it with cozy or living elements to create an inviting family-friendly space. If you want to see the best of the new IKEA catalogue, then you’re in the right place. As I did last year, I’ll share with you the pieces I plan to buy and how I plan to use them. Eighteen of the twenty items featured here are under $100. Most of these items are available in stores or online right now.
Note- I do not have an affiliate or business relationship with IKEA. I just love finding affordable décor gems.
Furniture
Härlanda Sofa
$549.00 USD with Inseros white fabric
I love the classic look of this sofa at such a great price point. It looks like a more expensive Pottery Barn sofa. I like that the armrests aren’t as oversized as the Ektorp sofa, giving it a more refined, classic look that would work equally well in a traditional or farmhouse style home. Note that the back cushions are loose cushions consisting of five cushions that are smaller than the three you would usually see with a three-seater sofa. The Härlanda comes in five colours- Inseros white, Sporda natural, Ljungen medium gray, Sporda dark grey, and Ljungen light green. It has a removable cover, which is very practical for families with children, pets, or adults who like to eat ice cream on the sofa! Some reviewers have commented that this sofa is rather difficult to assemble. The Härlanda is also available in loveseat and sofabed versions.
Odger Chair
$89.00 USD
This dining chair is a wood-plastic composite that is clean and sleek looking with an interesting shape. The shape is reminiscent of a mid-century modern chair, yet the material and homogenous colour/material is fresh and new. The molded design is quite comfortable. I love each of the four colours it comes in (black, blue, green, cream), particularly the steel blue option and anthracite black colour. These chairs assemble easily with pieces that click into place without the need for tools. These chairs would be very practical in a kitchen dining area that is used by young children, as the entire chair can be easily wiped down. They are made of renewable wood and recycled plastic.
Hemnes 3-drawer chest (side table)
$129.00 USD
The Hemnes line of wood furniture is one of my all-time IKEA favourites. This side table is a welcome addition to the Hemnes line as it is a bedside table with a great amount of storage. It comes in three colours (white stain, dark grey stain, black-brown stain) that coordinate with the Hemnes dressers, beds, desks and other pieces.
Tableware
Återblick stoneware bowl
$ 3.49 USD
These look like the perfect bowls for Pho noodles or ramen. Or if you have hungry teenagers who seem to eat cereal all day long. These bowls are simple but have a pleasing shape and lovely detail around the rim. They come in a generous 8” diameter size.
Gladelig plate
$12.99 USD/package of 4
These affordable plates have a rustic look that would be at home in a modern farmhouse setting. I think they would be Joanna Gaines approved, as they have a look similar to dishes I’ve seen at Magnolia. They come in a pale grey colour with a rustic contrast-coloured rim. These plates are 10” in diameter.
They also sell coordinating side plates, bowls and plate bowls.
Wall Art
IKEA is a favourite source for wall art for University and College students and first home buyers. However, I have to admit that I have retained some of my IKEA art from my University days and I plan to buy more. IKEA art and frames are the most affordable I have found anywhere.
Fageron frame with poster (Canada only)
$29.99/set
This product is a set of two framed tropical-themed posters. The artwork has a vintage look and would be a great addition to summer décor or to a home decorated in a tropical style. The posters are 16” by 20”.
Opphem Mirror
$39.99 USD
This is a stylish oval rattan-framed mirror that would look perfectly at home with Boho styling or a beachy, relaxed home.
Lassbyn Mirror
$12.99 USD Set of two, or $12.99 USD Round Mirror
The Lassbyn series of mirrors is lovely and delicate. The gold-framed mirror set contains two petite uniquely-shaped mirrors (a hexagon and an octagon) hung from a gold necklace-style chain. There is also a round mirror coordinates with this set and is a slightly larger size, measuring 9 7/8” in diameter. These mirrors work well as an eclectic grouping in a front hall or another hallway in your home. They could also be part of a larger gallery wall mixing art and mirrors. They are quite versatile and would work beautifully in a boho-style home or updated traditional style home.
Hindås Mirror
$29.99 USD
This is a very affordable mirror for its size. The Hindås has a beautiful light-coloured rattan frame that is perfect for boho, beachy, and cottage-style décor. It complements the Opphem mirror and could be used together on a decorative mirror wall. It is a good size, at 19 5/8″ in diameter.
Lerboda Frame
$4.99-6.99 USD
These delicate frames have clear glass and no backing and are perfect for displaying old letters, postcards, or pressed leaves. They have a delicate metal chain for hanging as well as a simple metal stand if you want to use them on a tabletop.
These come in two different sizes (7 ¾” x 9 ¾”, or 6 ¼” square) and frame colours (gold, black).
We are now halfway through my 20 Favourites from the 2021 IKEA Catalogue. I hope you have seen something you like so far. Keep reading for awesome new storage items, textiles, and a kitchen faucet!
Storage
Bullig box
$9.99 – $14.99 USD
These woven bamboo storage boxes come in a couple of different sizes. Their light, neutral colour would work well with a variety of décor colour palettes. They lend a natural feel to any space. If you own a Kallax shelf unit, you are in luck, because these fit perfectly into the cubby shelves. They are open bins (no lids) and can be used to store medium-sized items. They also come in a black colour if you like the dark side.
Pallra magazine file and storage boxes
$4.99 USD/set of two
These magazine file boxes are in the perfect shade of soft blue with a slightly textured look that adds interest. I think they would be great in a home office, craft room, or child’s room. I think the texture gives them a higher-end look and disguises the fact that they are made of cardboard. They are sized at 4” x 9 3/4″ x 11 3/4″. They are perfect for storing magazines, books, paper, or files.
Rejsa Box, gray-green
$3.99 – $17.99 USD
These metal storage boxes have a spot-on vintage feel from the muted grey-green shade to the curved lip to the vent holes on the largest bin. These bins fit perfectly in the Kallax shelving system. If you want to add a little industrial chic to your décor, these definitely fit the bill at an affordable price point too.
Textiles- Rugs, Cushions, and Bedding
$9.99 USD for 3’11” x 5’11” size in off white
$17.99 USD for 5’1” x 7’3” size in gray/white
The Tiphede is unbelievably priced for a 100% cotton flat woven rug. It comes in two beautiful neutral colours and two sizes. Unfortunately, it looks like the off white rug is available only in the smaller size and the gray/white rug is available only in the larger size. These rugs are machine washable, which is a great feature for busy households. It is recommended to use a rug pad underneath flat-woven rugs to give them a little cushioning and to help prevent them from slipping or shifting. A neutral rug is great for layering with a patterned rug or in spaces where there is already significant colour and pattern as it can help ground the space.
Len Rug
$39.99 USD for 4’4” x 5’3” size
I definitely have a soft spot for all things polka-dotted and this rug is no exception. This small nylon rug is sized for a child’s room or play area. Additionally, it has a non-slip backing and a medium thickness. The grey colour is a beautiful light neutral, with the polka dots adding a playful detail.
Tradkrassula Duvet
$9.99 USD for Full/Queen Duvet cover and pillowcases ($7.99 for twin size)
I’m going to share a little secret with you- IKEA is my favourite source for decorative pillow covers and duvet covers. While their sheets aren’t my favourite because I don’t find them to be super soft, IKEA does make good quality pillow covers and duvets. Their prices can’t be beaten and they have a knack for creating beautiful and on-trend fabric designs. We mainly use a duvet for decoration at the end of the bed to be pulled up during only the coldest nights. This may not be the duvet for you if you tend to cozy up with your duvet and are looking for something soft next to your skin.
The pattern on this polyester/cotton blend duvet is a small-scale geometric pattern in a lovely green-blue colour on a white background. Note that there are no buttons at the end to keep the duvet closed. I would add some buttons or snaps (very easy to do) to give the duvet a more tidy look.
Evalouise cushion
$4.99 USD
This red and white floral pattern pillow is a steal for a 20” by 20” 100% cotton pillow cover. I think this would be a perfect pillow for Christmas and now is the time to start thinking about Christmas décor. However, I’m pretty sure these will be sold out well before Christmas.
Idalinnea cushion cover
$4.99 USD
The Idalinnea pillow is a 20” by 20” 100% cotton pillow cover in a lovely teal blue and white floral pattern. It would be beautiful in a traditional, farmhouse, or cottage style home. It adds the perfect amount of colour and pattern to liven up a neutral space.
Omtänksam chair pad
$14.99 USD for 15” round or 16” square
I pretty much like everything in the new Omtänksam line, but if I have to choose just one thing, it would be the chair pads (followed closely by the Multi cushion). While they can be used on chairs, I think they are best suited for use on the floor. Additionally, you could use them as meditation pillows or in a children’s play area where children (and parents) are seated on the floor. They have a washable zippered cover that is made of a cotton/polyester blend. The soft shade of grey is neutral and would work with many colour palettes.
Other
Glypen kitchen faucet
$69 USD
This is a fabulous price for such a stylish stainless-steel look faucet. It has a built-in water saver to help reduce water usage and save money. We had an IKEA kitchen faucet similar to this one at our last home and it was a good faucet, actually better than our current faucet that was triple the price. It doesn’t have any special features, but in my experience, it is the special features that tend to cause issues later on (spray heads and touch faucets for example).
My Favourites…
So, what are my favourite new IKEA pieces I’ll be purchasing soon?
I’m seriously considering purchasing the Härlanda loveseat in white for our living room. We recently moved our loveseat to the family room and now have a void we want to fill. I love the simple lines, small size, and neutral fabric of this sofa. If I end up purchasing it, I will share the complete review on the blog. What do you think? I would place it where the spare dining chairs are currently located in front of the window.
Next, I think I’m going to purchase the Gladelig plates (10” and 8” sizes). I would be tempted to purchase three sets of each (12 plates in each size) to have enough for family dinners.
I’m sure I will be purchasing some of the Rejsa Boxes. When I saw them, I fell in love. They are 100% my style. I like that they are metal and durable and able to withstand years of use (and abuse). They will be perfect to store my craft supplies, but I’m also thinking about getting some for the boy’s rooms.
I know I’m not going to be able to stop myself from purchasing the Evalouise and Idalinnea cushion covers. They are just too pretty and IKEA cushion covers are great quality for the price. These patterns will fit perfectly into my farmhouse style home.
Finally, I’m planning to buy the Omtänksam chair pad. The circular design will be perfect for my daily meditation.
It looks like I’ll be spending a little more than last year, but there are so many good things this year! Has anything caught your eye?

I wish we lived closer to an Ikea. I’m on the hunt for new furniture and LOVE that sofa. I’m going to have it check it out. Thank you for sharing, Shawna.
Shawna Liao says
Thank you Jen. When I was a teenager and in my twenties, it was a few hours to drive to the nearest IKEA. I remember begging my Dad and then my husband (before we were married) to drive me there!

Shawna I love all of your IKEA choices! In especially am crushing on those rattan mirrors. So pretty!
