I have rounded up the best neutral fall decor ideas for your home. From front porch ideas to tablescapes and mantle decor, you will find some great neutral fall decor for all the main areas of your home.
I have always been a huge fan of neutral fall decor. I typically use subtle shades of cream, green, straw, and brown or grey. The advantage of neutral fall decor is that you can start decorating for fall at the beginning of September and you’re less likely to tire of your decor than if you used a traditional orange colour scheme.

Exterior Decor
The key to creating a lovely neutral exterior colour palette is to incorporate greenery, either fresh or preserved. In this beautiful photo, the trailing greenery frames the scene and enlivens it with freshness.
White pumpkins are the perfect way to set a neutral colour palette and give a sense of fall. The addition of copper and steel grey-blue pumpkins and accessories creates a unique, neutral colour palette. Lanterns and a cozy spot to sit with a blanket set the scene.
In this photo, the greenery is provided by the fall mums. White mums and white pumpkins provide the neutral framework. The accent colours used here are sage green, seen in the siding and pumpkins, and a rust colour, seen on the vintage lanterns and jugs. We see a cozy spot to sit and enjoy the cool, refreshing air.
In this photo, the greenery is provided by the preserved eucalyptus, and white pumpkins make an appearance stacked largest to smallest. The dark cast iron urn provides contrast with the lighter toned brick, garage door, and pumpkin display.
In this backyard oasis, there is a beautiful green leafy backdrop and a floral arrangement of eucalyptus and greenery sits on the table. The neutral white tones are provided by the sofa, blankets, pouf, rug, and pumpkin. The main accent colour here is copper, as seen in the beautiful hammered copper table.
So you can see how following a simple formula of greenery + white (pumpkins and decor) + one or two neutral accent tones (sage green, copper, rust, black, grey-blue) + a cozy sitting area can create a beautiful neutral fall space.
Front entry
Next up on my list of best neutral fall decor ideas is a front door vignette. In this photo, a large basket filled with greenery and neutral toned pumpkins creates a beautiful focal point. The old white door provides an interesting neutral backdrop, and the birch trees, Hunter rain boots, and felt hat all hint at cooler weather. Throw in a few more white pumpkins and this vignette really feels like fall. Note that the golden brown pumpkins, greenery, and black boots keep the neutral colour palette interesting.
Family room or living room
In a family room or living room there are usually a few possible places to create vignettes and convey that fall feeling. The fireplace mantle and coffee table are used in this manner in this gorgeous living room. As with the exterior decor, greenery makes a prominent appearance here in the magnolia wreath and greenery tucked in among the pumpkins. White/cream walls, white pumpkins, and the cream chunky blanket provide the right amount of white for this neutral colour scheme. The accent tones are the wood tones in the candlesticks, lamp bases, and coffee table, and the shades of light, medium and dark green in the pumpkins.
This beautiful living room uses the same colour palette as the above photo, though a little less green is used here. White and green pumpkins and the cozy blanket create the sense of fall in this photo.
This simple pumpkin vignette on the fireplace mantle is absolutely stunning, yet so simple. The aged wood mirror stands out beautifully against the white wall and fireplace. White and green heirloom pumpkins and eucalyptus provide the “fall factor” and green tones I love. The little candle sconce adds a touch of gold and balances the warm wood tone of the mirror. So Much Better With Age has a tutorial on how to make these gorgeous heirloom pumpkins.
In this photo, the baskets, buckets and trays filled with white pumpkins and greenery provide the focal point. The background is cozy, cream, and inviting.
Kitchen
Next up on my list of best neutral fall decor ideas is the kitchen. The colour palette in this kitchen is white, medium grey, green, and copper. Even though there are no pumpkins, blankets, or candles in this photo, it still conveys a cozy fall look. This is due mostly to the display of copper pots. Copper is such a great colour for fall!
Dining room
When I think of fall decor, the dining room is one of the first places I think of. This is because fall is a time to gather with family and friends and it is the harvest season where people traditionally enjoy the bounty of fresh produce. Setting the table for a fall dinner party or Thanksgiving dinner seems effortless in these photos.
In this photo, there is a neutral backdrop of soft grey, white, and greyed wood tones. The fall factor is introduced through the pumpkin, greenery and feather displays seen on the dining table and sideboard table.
Pumpkins are everywhere in this stunning tablescape. Most of them are white, but you can see a few dark green ones in the background. The accent colours here are wood tones, greenery, and that lovely black chalkboard in the background. The colour of the terra cotta pots is very subdued and would still be considered a neutral. Additionally, these adorable pots give the sense that the pumpkins are fresh-picked from the field and delivered straight to the table. Another element I love in this space is the white wood table runner. What a creative idea!
In my fall tablescape below, I used white, green, and striped pumpkins mixed with greenery (faux lamb’s ear and eucalyptus) on top of a burlap and lace runner. The place settings consist of water hyacinth chargers, topped with white and sage green plates, and completed with beige and cream buffalo check napkins and white mini pumpkins. In addition, I used a mix of real and faux pumpkins for this tablescape.
This beautiful dining area benefits from the huge windows and beautiful leafy backdrop. The fall elements are subtle here- an oversized floor vase with dried grasses and the candles in brass candle holders. As we can see, fall decor can be minimal or it can be a symphony of pumpkins.
Summary
To summarize my best neutral fall decor ideas, I’ve created a cheat sheet for creating this look in your own home.
- Start with a neutral backdrop- white, cream, beige, or light grey walls, and mostly neutral furnishings.
- Add greenery in the form of plants, or real or faux stems such as eucalyptus or lamb’s ear.
- Add white pumpkins- a few, or lots! Display them in baskets or bins mixed with greenery, and on their own.
- Choose one or two additional accent colours such as black, grey, rust, green, copper, or gold.
- Add additional pumpkins in one or two of your accent colours.
- Add cozy decor accessories such as blankets, pillows, lanterns and candles in your accent tones.
- Make sure to add a cozy place to sit, whether your are decorating an indoor or outdoor space.

This post has been a sheer delight! While I enjoy seeing homes decorated with the oranges, golds, and jewel tones of autumn, I’m more comfortable decorating our home with green, white, cream and natural wood tones of fall. The same goes with my Christmas home decor. Your lovely wood tray with creamy pumpkins and chunky pinecones is a work of art! The pillows with soft fall designs along with that fabulous wreath…perfect! Thank you for sharing your creativity along with others’ beautiful neutral autumn looks.
