I’m so excited to be sharing this Brilliant colors of fall home tour with you all. This is my third home tour and I have to admit that this is my favourite one so far. There’s just something special about fall and I look forward to the sights and scents of this season all year long. Is there anything better than a cup of hot cider mulling with cinnamon and cloves, or a walk through the forest on a crisp day as the leaves turn every shade of gold, orange, and red? My ultimate goal in fall decorating is to capture the feeling of autumn in my decor. It’s easier than you might think and I’m sharing my favourite ways to do this in my fall home tour. If you have arrived here from Caitlin Marie Design, I hope you’ll enjoy this post then check out the other participants on this blog hop.
A quick note on spelling: Here in Canada we use the British spelling “colours”. However, this is a joint-country home tour, so the spelling used in the title and graphic at the bottom of this post is “colors”. For consistency I’ve used “colors” throughout the post.
Main hall
Our main hall leading through our home is one of my favourite little spots to decorate. I installed shiplap here last year and added a little bench. For fall, I hung a wreath (to view the DIY tutorial, click here) in shades of cream, green, and peach, and added a few accent florals and fabric pumpkins (click here for the tutorial). This area sets the tone for the decor in our home this fall. The backdrop throughout our home is mostly neutrals, and for fall I’ve added a mix of soft colors and jewel tones throughout our home.
Living Room
In the living room, I added beautiful shades of gold and sage green with pillows and blankets. I tend to add more blankets and pillows this time of year as they evoke warmth and coziness. The main new element I introduced this fall is the new rug layered on top of the existing sisal rug. The layered rug look is very popular right now and I love how it adds additional colour, texture and warmth. It’s a 5’ by 7’ size, so very affordable and easy to change out with the seasons. I also added a few pumpkins, like the mini faux pumpkins in the windowpane vases and a stacked duo on the stool beside the chair.
Dining Room
Every season there’s usually two or three spaces I give a little extra attention, and this season, one of those spaces is the dining room. Fall is such a great time to gather around the table to give thanks and appreciate the autumn harvest. We also celebrate several family birthdays in the fall, so we tend to use our dining room a lot this time of year.
For my tablescape, I used a burlap and lace table runner as the base for green and white pumpkins, greenery, and faux berries. I make these table runners myself and they can be purchased in my Etsy shop, Willow Bloom Wreaths. I’ll share my Thanksgiving place settings a little closer to the holidays. It’s our first fall since purchasing our Restoration Hardware chairs (click here for a complete review) and I think they look pretty with the greens and creams I’ve used in this space.
Kitchen
I generally don’t do a lot of seasonal decorating in the kitchen because I’m an avid cook and like to keep the counter tops mostly free for food preparation. In the summer I had a lemon and greenery wreath above the hood fan, and for fall I swapped this out with a DIY cotton wreath. I found an adorable cotton wreath tea towel from Living With Amanda to match. I added a tiered tray styled with pumpkins, leaves, and a fall mini sign from KT Inspired Home. The tray can easily be moved out of the way if I need more counter space for pizza days and baking days.
I’m also always cooking a big pot of soup or stew in the fall and winter, so my Le Creuset Dutch oven is right at home on the stovetop. I’m hoping to share more of my favourite fall recipes soon. One of them is my recipe for homemade crusty bread.
We’re about halfway through my Brilliant colors of fall home tour and I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the tour.
Breakfast area
Our breakfast area is the transition space between our kitchen and family room, and I like to coordinate its decor with these two spaces. The kitchen décor is quite neutral, while the family room décor has a neutral backdrop with pops of rich color, so I decided to coordinate the breakfast area with the family room.
The lovely placemats were the jumping off point for the color scheme in the breakfast area. Blue is my favourite color, but it doesn’t readily lend itself to fall décor as much as the warmer colors do. However, I think the forest and bird motif evokes fall with the bare branches. And the addition of rich burgundy and fuchsia through flowers and pillows add a richness typically associated with fall. I freshened up the space with some cozy new seat cushions and simple blue glass candle holders.
Family Room
The family room is a colorful space in our home this fall and I’m finding I really want to spend more time here. The rich colors are inviting and invigorating. When I look to my garden for seasonal inspiration, I find that the colors I’m seeing right now aren’t the washed out beiges and straw colours seen in late fall, rather they are the rich violet tones seen in purple coneflowers and the hydrangeas that have just turned from white to rosy pink.
The burgundy throw pillows are made of a rich velvet fabric with a raw fringe edge. I adore the floral velvet pillow because of the vibrant colors juxtaposed against the white background. I haven’t gone pumpkin crazy in this space (yet!), but I have added a few touches that give a nod to fall, including the cozy blankets, basket of mini pumpkins, and beautiful October sign.
Home Office
I recently gave my home office a refresh with some beautiful wallpaper (click here for the full post). The addition of accessories in rich yellow tones dresses this space up for fall. I love the yellow velvet pumpkins and the step stool and birdhouses I painted in Fusion Mineral Paint’s “Prairie Sunset”. This space echos the color scheme seen in the living room.
