Are you looking for ideas to create a cozy fall living room? Well, you’re in the right place. I spent the past week crafting and gathering the items needed to decorate our living room in shades of white, beige, grey, rust, and peach.
Neutral Backdrop
Having a neutral backdrop makes decorating for each season quick and easy. Our walls are painted in Benjamin Moore Classic Grey and all our furniture is upholstered in shades of linen. I have also painted a number of pieces in this space white. For example, our piano is painted with Fusion Mineral Paint (click here for the tutorial).
Inspiration
I usually don’t use orange in my fall decor, but I fell in love with the rusty orange colour seen on the pillows here. I had a couple of small remnants of this silk fabric and made these two pillows as a starting point for my cozy fall living room decor. With orange, a little goes a long way, and I only needed to add a few additional orange accents to complete the look.
Orange Accent Colour
In addition to the two rust silk pillows, I added these two muted orange pillows from Chapters. They are very textural with an embroidered design. When paired with the white and light beige pillows, they create a calm yet warm setting.
I made the orange pillow in the basket in the foreground (above) and the matching mini pumpkins in the basket on the coffee table. Pairing the orange pumpkins with the cream-coloured rope balls tempers the orange colour and keeps the overall look light and bright. These fabric pumpkins are a favourite in my Etsy shop this year and you can click here for my recent post on the launch of my fall Etsy line! I’m also sharing the complete tutorial on how to make these pumpkins here.
Other Fall Accents
Above the antique sofa (click here for the re-upholstery blog post), I added some vases with fall stems, including some cream berries and cream mini pumpkins. I added a cotton stem wreath to the top of a handmade blanket ladder (click here for the blanket ladder tutorial). And I added a couple of baskets, including the berry basket with a simple faux floral arrangement.
The Piano
I always enjoy decorating the area around our piano and I had a lot of fun this year. I found these pretty brown vintage bottles last week and think they tie in perfectly with the rust-coloured silk pillows and mini pumpkins.
On the same shopping trip, I found this lovely vintage look basket, and filled it with my grey and white ticking stripe and grey polka dot mini pumpkins, also available in my Etsy shop.
I hope you have enjoyed my cozy fall living room tour. Have you started decorating for fall?
