Summer and picnics go hand-in-hand, don’t they? I love a good picnic and feel that having a great table setup can take an ordinary picnic to the next level. If you want a fabulous level picnic with minimal effort, this post is for you. In this post, Cute Blue and White Picnic Tablescape, I show you how to create a beautiful, practical, and easy tablescape perfect for the backyard, park, or campsite. This look is perfect for a Father’s Day picnic, Fourth of July celebration, or Canada Day gathering. I tested out this look in our kitchen but plan to take it on the road for our annual camping trip to Algonquin Park. You can read about our camping adventures, tips, and gear here.

Update for my Readers
I’m back after a nearly two-month-long writing hiatus. Life as a mom to three pre-teen and teenage boys and as a dedicated piano teacher has taken up nearly all my time since January. My oldest son has had a very busy violin performance schedule and this is his last year at home before leaving the nest and starting a university violin performance program. I’m grateful I was in a position where it was possible to scale back my work during this busy and formative time. I expect to be back at full capacity by September and until then I plan to write biweekly to monthly posts.
Inspiration for the Cute Blue and White Picnic Tablescape
My inspiration for this tablescape came from a trip to the Syracuse Target in May. We were on tour with my son’s violin ensemble and found a Target store while staying in Syracuse, New York. We don’t have Target in Canada, so this was quite a treat for me. My family indulged me in a one-hour browsing (and buying) experience. I spent more than half my time in the Magnolia Hearth and Hand kitchen section, which is where I found most of the items for this tablescape.
When I saw the windowpane pattern wipeable oil-cloth tablecloth, I immediately fell in love the with style and practicality. A tablecloth that is wipeable, repels water, and doesn’t have to be thrown in the wash every time someone spills something? Yes, please! The style was adorable too and became the basis for my cute blue and white picnic tablescape. It’s a thick tablecloth that doesn’t have a plasticky look and it drapes nicely.
Place Settings
I found these cute bamboo-melamine gingham plates in a pretty blue-and-white colour combination. Bamboo or melamine plates are perfect for picnics and camping and are so much better and more stylish than disposable ones. I loved the natural woven chargers that Target also carried, though I didn’t purchase them because I already have similar ones. I used some blue glass drinking glasses to complete the look. These were a Homesense find years ago. For a picnic or camping trip, I would use a non-breakable stacking cup. Target carries gingham cups that match the plates, which can be found here.
Centerpiece
The perfect centerpiece for a picnic or camping trip is one that can be used for storing plates, cutlery, and napkins. I couldn’t believe I found the perfect picnic caddy and snapped it up right away. Thank you to my son for carrying all my purchases! I styled it with extra plates, cutlery, napkins, and some pretty tea towels. Our annual camping trip is coming up soon and I can’t wait to bring this set up along and have a much simpler and more streamlined experience. I love adding pretty, comforting, and, some-may-argue, luxurious touches to our camping setup. You can read about that in my post The Best Camping Little Luxuries.
I also added a couple of plants to the table. If I were camping or at a picnic away from home, I would most likely replace these with large candles. For a backyard barbeque, I’d probably use potted herbs or vases of fresh garden flowers.
Summary
I hope you have enjoyed reading about this cute blue and white picnic tablescape. You could certainly add to this tablescape to make it suitable for a Fourth of July celebration. Or you could choose red and white plates for a Canada Day celebration. I’d love to hear about how you decorate your picnic tables. Have a happy Father’s Day weekend! I’m looking forward to hosting a barbeque for my husband and father this weekend.
