This easy giant cookie recipe is a great one to make with children. They will love the idea of a giant cookie! It is also the perfect dessert to serve at a pizza party as the cookie resembles a pizza when cut into slices. Feel free to add whatever extra treats you may like, such as nuts, candies, or chocolate bar chunks.
I learned this recipe when I was a grade 8 student taking Home Economics. Our school had a wonderful program to provide Home Economics (cooking and sewing) as well as woodworking to all the students. It was there that my love of cooking, crafts, and woodworking began. It really was the seed that allowed Willow Bloom Home to develop and grow. Providing opportunities to children is so important!
We are in challenging times, but a little bit of family time spent baking can work wonders to uplift the spirit. In the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a variety of fun family activities to enjoy during this trying time of self-isolation.

Get all your ingredients ready and the mixing can be done quickly and easily with an electric mixer. Involve your children by letting them measure ingredients and operate the mixer. If you don’t have an electric mixer, you can still make this recipe by hand mixing.
My kids loved patting the dough ball flat and helping to roll it into a circle before baking.
This cookie bakes pretty quickly- only about 18 minutes in a 375 degree F oven. Watch it carefully after about 15 minutes to ensure it doesn’t overcook.
Easy Giant Cookie Recipe
Equipment
- oven
- mixer
- 14" pizza pan
- rolling pin
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Using a mixer, beat butter and sugars together on medium speed until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating until well mixed.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt and baking soda together. Add to mixer gradually (slow setting) and continue beating until combined.
- Mix in chocolate chips and form a ball with the dough.
- Line a 14" round metal pizza pan with parchment paper and place the dough ball in the middle of the pan. Pat the dough flat and use a rolling pin to flatten the dough into a circle. The cookie dough should be about 3/4" from the edge of the pan to allow for expansion during cooking.
- Bake for 16-20 minutes, until the cookie is nicely browned.
- Cool on a cooling rack and cut into wedges after about 8 minutes of cooling.
This cookie is easiest to cut after cooling for about 8 minutes. I cut it into 16 slices, but you could cut larger or smaller wedges if you prefer. My kids always enjoy cookies with a cold glass of milk.
