There’s something so inviting about a Farmhouse style bedroom that is so cozy and inviting. And at Christmastime, this seems to ring even truer. I’m sharing my Farmhouse Christmas bedroom and an IKEA hack for a cute storage drawer. Farmhouse Christmas decor is all about adding cozy and charming layers to create an inviting and welcoming space.

Painted Dresser
One of the most quintessential components of farmhouse style is painted or distressed furniture. I painted this antique dresser green and shared the whole process in my post, Easy Dresser Makeover with Fusion Bayberry. Green is such a great colour to paint furniture because it looks good throughout the year. However, I think it really shines at Christmas time. If you don’t want to commit to painting a large piece of furniture, then consider painting something smaller. A stool, side table, or bed tray would be good candidates and would add a pretty pop of colour and farmhouse charm.
On top of the dresser, I added more farmhouse classics. The wood sign from Kendrick Home is simple but shares a message I adore and believe in. I may leave it up beyond Christmas because it brings such a sense of serenity to the bedroom. Next, I added pieces from my collections of vintage green glass jars and chunky white candle pillars. The mini flocked tree with twinkle lights adds just the right touch of holiday sparkle to this corner of the bedroom.
The Farmhouse Bed
The backdrop to the bed is this shiplap feature wall – check out the full tutorial here. I have had this poster bed for 25 years and it works well for a farmhouse style bedroom, but many other bed styles would work equally as well. To start, I added a magnolia leaf and greenery garland with twinkle lights to the headboard. I wrapped the twinkle lights around the headboard posts for a little more illumination.
As I’ve mentioned before, wood signs add that farmhouse look effortlessly. The Christmas tree sign, from Harper Grayce, adds a rustic element with it’s upcycled barnboards. I added an assortment of white, black, and green bedding to keep the look neutral yet layered and cozy.
Side Table Decor
On both sides of the bed, I hung gold distressed bells from the sconces. To the left side table, I added a simple potted plant and a couple more pieces from my green glass collection. Then I scattered a couple of oversized jingle bells. On the lower shelf sits a metal basket filled with books. I strongly associate the holidays with reading and relaxing.
To the right side table, I added a mini tree, cute Christmas printable, and my favourite holiday mug. And more books of course! I’d love to hear what’s on your reading list this holiday season- leave a comment and I’ll check out your recommendations.
Reading Nook
I decided to give my reading nook a romantic and feminine look. I carried the white and green colour scheme over from the rest of the bedroom but it got a softer look with grey tones instead of black, and some soft pink accessories. Tassled pillows, a ruffled throw, a bunch of flowers, and pink ornaments add to the romantic feel. The garland around the mirror, mini Christmas trees, and white ceramic houses add Christmas charm to this little corner.
I believe that an important part of decorating for Christmas is creating cozy spots where family can sit and relax and enjoy the festive surroundings. This is one of the many spots I hope to spend some time reading this holiday season.
Desk Area and IKEA Hack
I have completed most of my work for 2020 and my desk is now clean and tidy and ready for some planning for the new year. I’m sharing the instructions below for this little IKEA hack. The wood bead garland can be purchased in my Etsy shop, Willow Bloom Wreaths.
DIY Instructions
How many of you have one of these IKEA moppe storage boxes? I’ve had mine since university and have wanted to upgrade it for over a decade now! When Fusion recently released their brand new Milk Paint, I knew it was the right time. I gave it a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper and wiped it clean. Then I mixed up some of the milk paint in London Fog and applied two coats to the storage box frame.
For the drawers, I stained them with Homestead House Stain and Finishing oil – a 50/50 mix of Cappuccino and Driftwood. One coat allowed the natural wood grain to show through. I reversed the drawers so the notch is at the back and I would have a blank slate for these lovely glass knobs from Lee Valley.
I hope you have enjoyed my post, Farmhouse Christmas bedroom and an IKEA hack. Remember to find time to enjoy your decor and take in its beauty.
