Are you looking for a fabulous holiday craft to make right now? Something that is easy to learn and doable in an hour or so, but that is refined and elegant? If so, you’ve come to the right place. In my post, Five Fabulous Christmas Crafts To Make Right Now, I’m sharing five craft projects that I designed and published here on my blog. They include a beautiful felt leaf wreath, a Pottery Barn inspired cable knit pillow, painted wood ornaments, an all-season greenery wreath, and fabric heart ornaments. Each project will take one to two hours to create. You can make these projects with family and friends or on your own as you listen to some holiday music and get in the Christmas spirit. Choose one or all five and let’s get crafting!
Note- The detailed instructions can be found by clicking on the link in the title of each project. This post contains an overview of each project and some styling and gifting ideas.
Easy DIY Felt Leaf Wreath
This project is the perfect simple adornment to your door, a mirror, or a fireplace mantle. This wreath is shown in a calming cream colour, but you could recreate it in any colour. Green or a soft grey would also be very pretty for the holiday season. Winter is a great time to make this wreath as the cutting and assembly are comforting. It can help soothe any holiday-season stress you might be feeling. Any thick synthetic or wool felt will do. The finished dimensions of this wreath are 16″ by 16″ by 2.5″, but the pattern is easily adapted to any size you like. The best part about this wreath is that you can complete it in only one hour and all the supplies are readily available.
I also sell these in my Etsy shop. This wreath sells out quickly, but I try to restock it as often as I can. Click here for the detailed wreath instructions.

While this wreath looks beautiful displayed at Christmas, it is also a beautiful winter wreath to display as long as the air is chilly. It would make an incredible Christmas gift for any decor lover. It’s so easy to customize this wreath by simply choosing a colour that works with the recipient’s home decor. The wreath is fairly small and you could likely find the perfect gift box for it. Alternatively, it would fit nicely into a large gift bag with tissue paper. I like the idea of giving a gift box of all items in a single colour. For example, include the cream-coloured wreath, a white candle, and perhaps a book with a cream-coloured cover. Or an olive green wreath and a similarly coloured throw blanket.
Pottery Barn Cable Knit Pillow
Blankets and pillows are my favourite ways to incorporate hand-knitted items into my décor. And sometimes the simplest patterns look just as beautiful as the more complicated ones. Chunky weight yarns have been popular in recent years and they knit up quickly. The pillows in this post can be knit from start to finish in just a couple of hours. They were inspired by the beautiful, but costly, Pottery Barn pillows. This version can be made for a fraction of the cost and you can make them in any colour you like. The completed pillow cover measures 20″ by 20″.

Who wouldn’t want a beautiful hand-knit pillow for a gift? If you do decide you can part with the pillow, make sure to make or buy a tag that says “Made with love by ____” to remind the recipient of you. I would pair this homemade pillow with another cozy-themed gift item, like a festive mug, cozy slippers, hot chocolate gift pack, or a soy wax candle in a holiday scent.
DIY Painted Wood Ornaments 3 Ways
I adore the look of farmhouse-style painted wood Christmas ornaments so I decided to create three different DIY options. These ornaments look adorable together and can be used to decorate an entire tree. The three projects include chalkboard wood slice ornaments, tree stencil wood slice ornaments, and holiday word block ornaments. They will add a little farmhouse charm to your holiday decor this year. A set of five ornaments will take you about an hour.

If you plan to gift these, then I recommend taking them to the next level and personalizing them with the recipient’s name. Alternatively, you could add a quote or motif that really suits the personality and preferences of the recipient. For the word blocks, you could make one for each member of the recipients family. If you have a Cricut machine, this is easily done. For the wood slice stencil ornaments, choose a stencil that is meaningful to the recipient. Handmade ornaments are a great “extra” in gift baskets. A favourite way of mine to gift ornaments is to include them as part of the gift wrapping. Tie them on top of the wrapped gift using twine or a pretty ribbon and maybe a sprig of fresh or faux greenery.
All-Season Greenery Wreath
If you don’t like the idea of having a wreath that can only be used for a few weeks out of the year, then this all-season wreath might be just what you’re looking for. It can be left up all year round and is easily dressed up for the holidays by adding a festive ribbon or bow. This beautiful and full wreath can be made in about an hour. The finished size is about 22″ by 22″ by 5″ deep.

I hesitate to gift holiday wreaths at Christmas because, by the time Christmas Day arrives, most people aren’t interested in holiday decor. That’s where this wreath comes in. Every home could use a wreath to fill the post-Christmas decor void. I like the idea of gifting the wreath with a couple of different ribbons so the recipient can see how versatile this wreath is. The wreath is full and generously sized, and I think it makes a great stand-alone gift with a pretty card.
DIY Handmade Christmas Heart Ornaments
Handmade Christmas ornaments are very popular again this year. Crafting your own ornaments is a great way to relieve stress and save money on decor. I made a promise to myself not to buy any more stuff for Christmas decor this year aside from some fresh greenery, plants, and flowers. If you’re in the same boat, then this project is ideal. Most likely, you already have the materials at home to make this project. And, if not, you only need to purchase a very small amount of fabric for this project (0.25 metres or yards would be plenty).
I also make and sell these ornaments in my Etsy shop in a variety of fabrics. Click here for the detailed ornament instructions.

A set of these ornaments would make a great pre-holiday gift, perfect for a friend with a fall birthday. I like the idea of gifting a holiday decor bundle to someone who can’t afford decor or maybe lives alone and doesn’t think much about decorating. Depending on the family or individual’s needs, you could include some of the following items along with the ornaments in a gift box or bag: wreath, small strands of twinkle lights, mini Christmas tree, stockings, advent calendar, candle, holiday treats, holiday books, cozy blankets, slippers, live holiday plant (like Amaryllis or Paper Whites).
