Happy October friends! Do you like decorating for seasonal holidays? I do, but I don’t always like having to constantly change my decor. That’s why I designed this fun and festive Halloween tablescape. I wanted decor that could easily transition between Thanksgiving and Halloween without having to tear apart my dining room! Halloween and Thanksgiving fall close on the calendar and this tablescape can transition between the two with just a few tweaks. As a result, you can save money and, most importantly, time, during this busy time of year.

Colour Scheme
My fall decor scheme in our living room is cream and rusty orange this year, so I continued this trend into the dining room, adding touches of calming green and black. Click here for my cozy fall living room tour. The black and orange colour scheme is a classic Halloween look, but the cream and soft green tempers the look and makes it appropriate for a Thanksgiving celebration.
The Centerpiece
The centerpiece is often my starting point for a tablescape. I used a mixture of cream and soft green faux pumpkins, orange berries, faux lambs ear stems, and silk fabric pumpkins.
Supply list for centerpiece
- Cream burlap (enough for a table runner and to drape over urns)
- Four large cream faux pumpkins
- One large soft green faux pumpkin
- One medium-sized cream faux pumpkin
- Two medium-sized soft green faux pumpkins
- Two small soft green faux pumpkins
- 2 large urns
- Three stems faux lamb’s ear or other greenery
- Four stems orange berries
- Four small fabric pumpkins
Instructions for centerpiece
- Cut the burlap so that it measures 15″ wide and long enough to drape at least 6″ on each end of the table. Pull about 3 threads from each side of the runner to create a gently frayed edge. You can zigzag stitch around the edges if you want to prevent further fraying. Cut two small rectangles, about 10″ by 18″ to drape over the urns. Repeat the fraying process for these two pieces.
- Lay the runner down the center of the table and place the two urns about one meter/yard apart.
- Place the strips of burlap on top of the urns, followed by a large cream pumpkin and a medium green pumpkin.
- Halfway between the urns, place the large green pumpkin and stack a medium cream pumpkin on top. Loosely place the two remaining large cream pumpkins on either side.
- Tuck the lamb’s ear stems underneath the pumpkins sticking out on all sides. Layer the orange berry stems on top of the lamb’s ear.
This centerpiece could be used for a Thanksgiving tablescape without any adjustments.
The Place Settings
To create a fun and festive Halloween tablescape, I used a combination of black, cream, brown and orange. The black salad plates and orange pumpkin jingle bells add that festive Halloween touch. Prior to creating this tablescape I didn’t own any black plates, so they are the one new thing I purchased to create this tablescape. I was really happy to find these scalloped edge plates that compliment my white French Country plates.
Place setting layers
- Black and white ticking stripe placements (easy placemat tutorial here)
- Rattan charger
- White dinner plate
- Black salad plate
- Linen napkin with black stripes
- Fabric pumpkin (available in my Etsy shop or view the DIY tutorial)
- Halloween pumpkin jingle bells (Dollar Store find)
This place setting can transition to a fall or Thanksgiving setting by substituting a beige or patterned plate (leaves, buffalo check, plaid) for the black one and removing the Halloween jingle bells.
The Halloween Touches
The “BOO” letters from Michaels on the chair backs make this table unmistakably Halloween. I attached them to the chair backs with butcher’s twine. The chairs are from Restoration Hardware- click here for my complete chair review.
The spiderweb decor in the background adds a fun Halloween touch, especially when paired with orange pillows and pumpkins.
The console table and open shelves are decorated with a Spooky banner, faux crows (Homesense), and mini haunted houses (Dollar Store).
I hope you have enjoyed seeing how I put together this fun and festive Halloween tablescape. I hope you have fun decorating!
