I tend to decorate with neutrals at Christmas (well, at every time of the year for that matter!). This Christmas I decided to use shades of white, green, beige, and gold. Green is my favourite colour and it finds its way into all of my decor. Green is the perfect neutral at Christmas time- just when the outdoor landscape is turning brown and grey, we bring in the freshness of green trees, pine boughs, and wreaths. White and light beige keep the look bright and the gold adds that touch of sparkle that all Christmas decor needs. In this post, Green and White Christmas Living Room Decor, I share how to bring in green accents to create a beautiful neutral Christmas colour scheme.

A neutral backdrop for the green and white Christmas living room decor
A neutral backdrop allows you to use any Christmas colour scheme your heart desires. Our walls are painted in Benjamin Moore Classic Grey- it’s a light, warm greige. We have dark hardwood floors, but they are lightened with the tone-on-tone patterned rug from Boutique Rugs. Our living room furniture is all white or light weathered wood. And our drapes are a DIY project made with beige silk, trimmed in cream cotton lace.
The Christmas tree
I purchased our tree two years ago from King of Christmas (7.5′ slim tree linked). It’s a 9′ King Flocked tree that is pre-lit. Our ceilings reach 15′ in the living room, so this space can handle a large tree like this. Two years ago, I decorated it in shades of blush and white, and last year, I used shades of gold and champagne. You can see my tree decor from last year here.
I’ve jumped on board with tree collars this year, and found this pretty white snowflake one at Michaels. I like how the tree collar fills up the space under the tree and stays neat and tidy that way that fabric tree skirts do not.
To decorate the tree, I used neutral ribbon, glittery picks, and ornaments in shades of white, gold, mercury glass, and green. The green ornaments with gold detailing were a new purchase this year. I fell in love with them after seeing them on the Anthropologie website. Unfortunately, they quickly sold out, but they do have some other beautiful ones.
The gift wrap
I feel like I really scored in the gift wrap department this year. My two favourite finds are the green floral wrap from IKEA and the black and white pinecone paper from Michaels (in-store only). I also used a solid white paper and a kraft paper wrap for our presents.
I used twine, green velvet ribbon, white lace ribbon, and green and black check ribbon to wrap up the gifts. Then I adorned some of the packages with bells or wooden snowflakes.
The piano
I kept this area super simple this year, adding a green garland on top and a fuzzy throw and Night Before Christmas pillow from Michaels (in-store only) on the bench. Of course, I also added a Christmas music score to the ledge in the hopes that someone will play me some Christmas music!
The sofa
I reupholstered this antique sofa in the spring in a natural Belgian linen (click here for that post). To the sofa, I added a chunky knit blanket and fuzzy cream-coloured pillows. I also added a couple pops of green with the emerald green velvet pillows and a cute Good Tidings pillow. I’m currently knitting some cable stitch pillows for this space and will be sharing that on the blog next week.
Cozy details
On the coffee table, I placed a trio of weathered wood pillars with flameless candles. I added a basket of handmade rope ornaments from my Etsy shop. And the finishing touch is a pair of white doves to represent peace. These accents work well for my green and white Christmas living room decor, but would work equally well for many other colour schemes.
One of my Christmas decor secrets is to scatter ornaments throughout the home. This year I’m really enjoying the gathering of pretty ornaments in interesting baskets.
I added greenery to the vases on either side of the clock and a handmade magnolia wreath to a DIY door project. I don’t feel like I’m quite done with this space, so we’ll see if it evolves in the next 45 days before Christmas.
