Happy New Year my friends! Thank you so much for joining me in 2019 on this blogging journey. I started blogging one year ago and have loved every minute of it. A top ten summary for the year appeals to me as it shows me what posts were your favourite and what you’d like to see more of. I was a little surprised to see that many of your favourites were IKEA posts. However, I’m also happy to hear this because IKEA has been a favourite source of inspiration for me since I was a preteen. In fact, it’s still a favourite source of mine for budget-friendly decor. What I did expect to see was several of my DIY projects on the list of my top 10 blog posts of 2019. I’m excited to share that I have lots more DIY, room makeovers, and budget-friendly decor planned for 2020!
How did I determine my top 10 blog posts of 2019?
To determine my top 10 blog posts of 2019, I used Google Analytics. If you have a blog, it is indispensable in assessing many aspects of blogging success. I probably don’t spend enough time over at Google Analytics, but year end is an important time to take stock of my blog and make sure I’m heading in the right direction.
Ok, let’s do this, countdown style:
#10- Secrets to Decorating on a Budget
This post was a labour of love. I think I’ve actually been dreaming up such a post since I was about 12 years old wanting to decorate but of course having very little money! In this post, I share my favourite budget decorating secrets, like using old mason jars to display fresh herbs cut from the garden.
#9- A Quick and Easy Linen Closet Refresh
This was a completely spur of the moment project that struck me in January, when I so often get the urge to tidy and organize it all. I revamped three closets in 2019- it really is a satisfying thing.
#8- When to Use Chalk Paint, Fusion Paint, and Milk Paint
I adored writing this post because I love the power of paint to transform just about anything. In addition, I had heard so much confusion over the different types of furniture paint and preparation techniques, I wanted to provide a useful post to would-be-DIYers.
#7- Sunshine State of Mind Summer Home Tour
This was my second home tour ever and it was exciting for me because I had just purchased a new camera. Home tours are a lot of work but give the reader so much to look at.
#6- 20 Favourite New Ikea Pieces from the 2020 Ikea Catalogue
This is where the IKEA love begins. I’ve always looked forward to receiving the new IKEA catalogue and I think many of you do too! Since the catalogue is literally packed with products, I wanted to share my favourites and curate a collection of budget-friendly modern farmhouse style pieces.
#5- My Top 10 Ikea Finds
This post was in the top position for the entire first half of the year, but was bumped down to position 5 on my top ten blog posts of 2019 by more recent posts. Everyone loves a good IKEA find it seems!
#4- How I Painted my Piano with Fusion Mineral Paint
This was one of the easiest and one of my most favourite decor projects of all time. If you’re on the fence about painting your piano, I urge you to read this post.
#3- A Budget Farmhouse Bathroom Refresh
I started this project with a Pinterest board full of ideas and a whopping (wink wink) budget of $300. I think a lot of you could relate to this and wanted to see if such a transformation was possible.
#2- Easiest DIY Blanket Ladder
I have been making these blanket ladders for years and decided to write a post on it. This is because so many of my Instagram friends asked where I had purchased it. They used to be sold in my Etsy shop, but I couldn’t keep up with demand and didn’t want to spend all my time in the workshop (a.k.a. our cold, dark basement). You really can make this ladder in about 1 hour.
#1- My Ikea Sofa Review – The New Froslov Sofa
Yay! The #1 fan favourite post was my IKEA sofa review post. I wonder if IKEA sofas are the most popular in the world? I had NO idea this would be a hit, but I’m grateful and happy that I could help some of you make the decision on a new sofa.
Interesting Tidbits
I’m trained as a scientist so I’m inclined to make observations and question everything. In reviewing this list I noticed that all my top 10 posts were from the first three quarters of 2019. Therefore, not a single fourth quarter post made the cut. Additionally, none of my fall decor or Christmas decor made the list despite being popular on Pinterest. My “hypothesis” is that the newer posts haven’t had enough time to build up readership and lack the long-term cumulative results of earlier posts.
Summary
I hope you have enjoyed reading about my top 10 blog posts of 2019 and are inspired to read them. This was the most fun blog post to write, as it was partly a celebration of the past year’s accomplishments. Thank you for your wonderful support and I hope to keep putting out posts that inspire and inform.
