Happy New Year friends! I sincerely hope that 2021 brings hope and joy to all of you. Thank you so much for joining me in 2020 on this blogging journey. I am currently celebrating the two year anniversary of my blog and this past year has been a year of growth in so many ways. I reached my publishing goal for the year with 51 blog posts. And I hope I can do the same for 2021. A top ten summary for the year appeals to me as it shows me what posts were your favourite and what you’d like to see more of. As with the 2019 favourites, my IKEA posts were very popular. Thank you! My top 10 blog posts of 2020 are a mix of everything I love about blogging, including DIY’s, crafts, tablescapes, holiday decor, gardening, and recipes.
For 2021, I will be sharing more of these favourites and I am planning to share more teaching of beginner-level crafts and DIY skills, like sewing, woodworking, and reupholstery. I recently upgraded my video filming capabilities and look forward to sharing more video tutorials with you.
#10 – LAUNCH OF MY FALL ETSY LINE
I’m so happy that this post made the cut because it shows there is interest in the behind-the-scenes life of an Etsy seller. I’d really like to help other sellers who are new to Etsy grow their shops and get the most out of the experience. This post was just the start of something I hope to expand on this year. I know many of my readers aren’t Etsy sellers, but many of you enjoy shopping on Etsy and were curious about the fall trends.
#9- GARDEN FRESH MOTHER’S DAY TABLESCAPE
This post shares a home tour I participated in with a group of decor bloggers. I had so much fun creating this centerpiece with faux florals reminiscent of a spring garden. Tablescapes tend to be some of my most popular posts- I think because I share a lot of them, at least one every season. When I share a tablescape, I share all the sources and step-by-step instructions so that you can re-create the look.
#8 – CHRISTMAS DECOR TRENDS AND PREDICTIONS
This was my first post with seasonal predictions and it was something I started working on in the summer. The past year was such an unusual one, and I couldn’t help wonder how it all would affect the Christmas season and Christmas decor in particular. I think people are so much more décor-aware now that they pay attention to decor trends in a way that’s similar to fashion trends. We invest time and money into decor and having an idea of upcoming trends gives us a little insurance that our efforts are being invested in something that will last. In a few weeks, I’ll be sharing my trend report for 2021!
#7 – EASY GIANT COOKIE RECIPE
I shared this post during the first weeks of the Covid lockdown and I think it was helpful for parents looking to occupy kids that were suddenly home for what felt like a long time (now we really understand what long means). This was one of the first recipes I ever learned, back in elementary school. My boys love it because, well, it’s a giant cookie. And it looks like a pizza. It’s a great dessert to have after a pizza dinner too.
#6 – DIY PAINTED DOORMAT IKEA HACK
This is the kind of project and post that really excites me as it incorporates two of my favourite things. An IKEA hack plus Fusion Mineral Paint. That says it all for me. It’s a fun project that is also useful because everyone needs a doormat. And we all want a pretty one, especially if we can get it for a bargain. The post contains lots of step-by-step photos and instructions and requires only a few items to make.
We are halfway through my top 10 blog posts of 2020, and we are getting to the most popular posts.
#5 – VINTAGE SOFA REUPHOLSTERY OF A FAMILY HEIRLOOM
This project was really meaningful to me and I’m so happy to see that it was well liked. This sofa had quite the transformation and it’s an integral part of our living room now. In the post, I share the steps I went through to complete this project. It wasn’t a detailed tutorial as I was still learning some of the reupholstery techniques as I completed this piece. This year I plan to share more reupholstery projects. I’ve already started my next one!
#4 – DELICIOUS SUMMER STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE
This is another recipe that I’ve been making for ages and it’s the perfect summer pie, especially if you grow your own rhubarb. This post was part of a recipe hop I participated in and you have to see the other delicious berry recipes shared! I’m lucky to have such a well-rounded audience who appreciates decor, DIY’s, and recipes.
#3 – 6 INDOOR PLANTS PERFECT FOR FARMHOUSE DECOR
I’m not sure if it was the plant part of the this post or the farmhouse reference that made this post popular, but I’m glad to see that it was well liked. I think with more of us being home this past year, there was a shift towards creating a more welcoming environment. Plants do make a house feel like a home, and they also provide an opportunity to nurture and care for something. I think many of us either adopted a fur baby in 2020 or brought home ALL the plants. Good news- I’ve managed to keep them all alive and they have grown so much.
#2 – 20 FAVOURITES FROM THE 2021 IKEA CATALOGUE
This is one of my favourite (and most time consuming) posts to write each year. Every August, I go through the entire IKEA catalogue and select my favourites. I also test out many of these and style them in my home. IKEA has always been an obsession of mine, and I think that’s true for a lot of people. It’s affordable, fresh decor, and there’s always something new. I think 2021 will be a little different as the IKEA catalogue will only be online this year, but it’s a tradition I plan to contiunue.
#1 – TOP 12 IKEA HACKS TO TRY NOW
My #1 post of 2020 was all about IKEA hacks. Maybe it’s because everyone loves IKEA hacks. Have you every heard anyone say “I don’t like IKEA hacks.”? Um….no. The idea that we can take something plain and inexpensive and turn it into something unique and high-end looking is something that appeals to many. The power of transformation and a good before and after pic are universally appealing. I’m always on the lookout for IKEA hacks and will definitely be sharing more of these.
Thank you so much for reading my top 10 blog posts of 2020. Did you have a favourite? What would you like to see on the blog this year? I love connecting with my readers and hearing what is of interest to you.
