I just love a good tablescape and one of my favourite things to do each season is to create a new one. This holiday season I created a snowy white Christmas tablescape inspired by the snowy winters we experience here in Ottawa, Canada. In this post, I’m sharing how I created this fresh holiday look, including the easy centerpiece.

Inspiration
Much of my decor is inspired by nature, a place I have visited, or a new decor item I’ve fallen in love with. This Christmas, my tablescape inspiration comes from the beautiful white table linens I found at Solino Home and the calming beauty of a snowy landscape. However, we are having an unseasonably warm late fall with just a sprinkling of snow that has already melted away. So, I’m dreaming of white Christmas with a cool blanket of snow covering everything in sight. Somehow the holidays just don’t feel the same to me without snow.
Table Linens
I chose a classic hemstitch white linen tablecloth and napkins and white linen French stripe runner and placemats from Solino Home. I love the subtle stripes on the runner and placemats which breaks up the expanse of whiteness and adds a farmhouse touch to our farmhouse dining room.
Centerpiece
I like to create simple centerpieces using items I already have. I started with a base of dollar store wood snowflakes that I painted white. On top of each snowflake, I placed a white ceramic holiday house or a mercury glass tree. I used the taller mercury glass trees for the center of the table to create the focal point. The combination of white ceramic and mercury glass is bright with just the right amount of sparkle. I may add some low votive candles to the table or a strand of twinkle lights nestled between the houses and trees if we are dining past sunset.
Place Settings
I continued the snowy white theme to the place settings and used my white stoneware dishes from Pottery Barn. These rustic plates work with many different tablescapes and I always recommend having a set of good-quality white dishes. I used a salad plate layered on top of a dinner plate and topped them both with a handmade straw star. I made each of these stars using the Strohsterne (Star) Kit from The Crafter’s Box. This kit was a great value because I received enough materials to make dozens of straw stars. They make a great parting gift for each guest at your dinner table.
Gold silverware finishes the look and adds a touch of luxury and sparkle. The gold colouring of the cutlery ties in with the warmer elements of the tablescape, including the beige stripes of the table linens and the natural warmth of the straw stars.
Dining Room Decor
For the rest of the dining room, I used a variety of white dishware on shelves and Christmas tree-themed decor. I used a pair of faux trees on the small bookshelf behind the table. On the console table, I added a burlap-wrapped faux tree and a Farm Fresh Christmas Trees sign. The look is simple and uncluttered.
Summary
I hope you enjoyed reading about how I created this snowy white Christmas tablescape. Happy holiday decorating!
