Lemon and cranberry are one of those classic taste combinations we all love. When combined into a buttery scone and topped with a sweet glaze, it’s almost irresistible. This is my favourite scone recipe because the balance between sweetness and tartness is just perfect. In this post, I share my recipe for the best lemon cranberry scones in an easy to print format. Jump to RecipeThis recipe makes 8 large scones. The preparation time is 20 minutes, and the baking time is 22 minutes. You can make these the day before, but they are best the day they are made.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp lemon zest
- ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- ½ cup whipping cream, plus 2 Tbsp for brushing
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup cranberries, fresh or frozen (thawed)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1.5-2 Tbsp lemon juice
How to Make The Best Lemon Cranberry Scones
- Preheat the oven to 375˚F. Line a large baking tray with parchment paper.
- Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Mix in lemon zest. Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the cream, milk, egg, and vanilla. Pour over top of the flour mixture and mix until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough. Gently mix in the cranberries.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and gently flatten the dough into a 10-inch round. Cut into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Brush the scones with the cream and bake for 22 minutes or until lightly browned on top. Remove and place on a wire cooling rack.
- Allow the scones to cool completely, then drizzle the scones with the glaze using a small spoon. For a neater look, you can use a piping bag to do this.

I love to serve this treat with tea and lemon wedges. Alternatively, you could serve it up with iced lemon tea or lemonade if it’s a hot day. These are large scones and make a decadent snack. They remind me of the scones you can purchase at Starbucks, which makes them even more of a treat.
