The Best New IKEA Products For 2022

Every year I spend a few days pouring over the new IKEA catalogue, visiting the store to see the new products, and bringing some of my favourites home to test out. The catalogue has traditionally been released in August for the upcoming year. However, last year IKEA produced a virtual catalogue and this year there is no IKEA catalogue. However, that doesn’t mean that IKEA has stopped designing and selling new products. On the contrary, there are hundreds of beautiful and functional new products for 2022 that I’m excited to share here. In today’s post, The Best New IKEA Products For 2022, I’m sharing 24 of my personal favourites.

A Note On Product Availability

It’s important to note that IKEA has experienced significant product shortages this year as Covid-19 continues to impact manufacturing, shipping, and employment. There are abundant rumours that the shelves are empty. I went to the IKEA Ottawa store last week to see for myself and the showroom and shelves were not empty, but many of the displays indicated that products were not in stock. I frequently purchase IKEA furniture and décor for myself and family members and assist my décor clients with purchases. Nearly every item we planned to purchase last year was not available when we initially looked. However, with a little patience, most items did have availability within weeks or months. You can sign up to receive stock notifications if you click on the “notify me” link. This is the easiest way to (eventually) get the piece you’re looking for.

The Best New IKEA Products For 2022

Furniture

Lommarp Cabinet

102 cm width, 101 cm height, 48 cm depth $349 CAD

I’m really excited about this piece because of the beautiful smoky dark blue-green colour, updated traditional details like the recessed panelling, and the gold-tone hardware. It’s one of those elevated IKEA pieces that look higher end. I have a whole blog post about IKEA pieces that look expensive, and you can check that out here. This storage cabinet would work in a hallway, small dining room, living room, or any space where you need a little extra storage. It could also be used as a bar or coffee bar with a mug rack hanging above. I saw both of these cabinets a few days ago at our IKEA store and they are gorgeous!

IKEA also sells a taller cabinet with glass doors on top and it is equally gorgeous. And they have a coordinating media unit, bookcase, and desk with the same beautiful style.

Morbylanga Dining Table

220 cm length, 100 cm width, 74 cm height, $879 CAD

This modern-looking table comes in a rich brown oak veneer finish. The clean lines are bold and sturdy looking, and this table would suit a modern home or modern farmhouse aesthetic. My reservation with this table would be that it is an oak veneer and I would worry about damage to the finish. However, the reviews so far have been very positive, noting the table’s sturdiness and nice finish.

Ekenabben Open Shelf Unit

69.5 cm width, 154 cm height, 34 cm depth, $69.99 CAD

Open shelves have been very popular in recent years and this version by IKEA has simple, clean lines and a nice contrast of finishes. It has a modern, boho, or beachy feel and is perfect for displaying decorative items like picture frames, plants, decorative boxes, sculptures and candles. This shelf also comes in a smaller size with three shelves. For those of you who don’t live near IKEA, I found something quite similar from Amazon here.

Alex Drawer Unit On Casters

67 cm width, 66 cm height, 48 cm depth, $179 CAD

Alex drawer units are a beloved organizing essential from IKEA. It’s always nice to see new variations of this classic storage drawer. The steel grey colour and wheels make it practical for use in a home office or craft room. We use them in our home for storing school supplies and paper crafting supplies. One of the things I love about this unit is the sheer number of drawers. Six shallower drawers are so much more functional than three deep drawers. This unit pairs well with drawer dividers and inserts to organize its contents. You can also purchase the Alex drawer unit in white or black. I found a similar drawer unit at Amazon here.

Ljuv Coffee Table

55 cm diameter, 35 cm height, $119 CAD

This is a pretty petite coffee table for a small seating area. The gold colour is somewhat muted and the cutout pattern on the perimeter is eye-catching. I saw this in-store a few days ago and it was a little smaller than I had expected. I would recommend it for a small living room (loveseat and chairs) or nook with two chairs. Alternatively, you could pair it with a slightly larger round coffee table for a grouped look. If you like a round gold table but are looking for a slightly different style, I found some great options from Amazon here.

Gladom Tray Table

45 cm diameter, 53 cm height, $24.99 CAD

This is a clever table with its removable tray top. If you frequently enjoy snacks or meals in front of the television, this table is a must-have item. It would also be an excellent addition to a porch or patio. I love that the tray can be removed, loaded up with food and drink, and then brought back to the base for guests to enjoy. The taupe colour is fresh and modern and I really like the simple lines. This table also comes in three other fabulous colours. Amazon has a very similar table here.

Lamps And Faucets

Kinnahult Floor Lamp

150 cm height, $69.99 CAD

When I look for lighting, I look for simplicity and clean lines with one or two special details. The Kinnauhult floor lamp has a simple appearance, but the spindle detail and black lampshade bring it up a notch. It has a modern farmhouse or cottage aesthetic. You can also purchase a coordinating table lamp that is just as cute. I found a similar floor lamp base on Amazon with a different style of shade. You can see that lamp here.

Delsjon Kitchen Faucet, brass colour

Single-hole faucet, $129 CAD

This is one of the most affordable waterfall style gold faucets I’ve seen. At our previous home, I owned this faucet in another finish and it was well made and functional. The gold colour is on-trend and would look fabulous with black, grey, white, forest green, or navy cabinets. I adore the simple, clean profile and that lovely gold finish. Lonnestak Rug

160 cm by 230 cm (5’3” by 7’7”), $249 CAD

This new IKEA rug has a muted graphic appeal. The repeating geometric pattern is interesting and would add a touch of subtle pattern to a neutral space. It’s pretty close to a standard 5’ by 8’ rug and would suit a small living room or as a top layer in a larger living room. It would look lovely layered on top of an 8’ by 10’ sisal rug. It could also be used in a large mudroom, under a small kitchen table, or in a small playroom.

Vamdrup Flatwoven Runner Rug

80 by 200 cm (2’7” by 6’7”), $129 CAD

I love the tile look of this runner as it has vintage appeal. The neutral palette is still striking thanks to the graphic pattern. It’s a bargain for a handmade 100% wool rug. This striking rug could be used in a kitchen or in a hallway. It’s a flatwoven rug, so a non-slip pad is needed underneath. IKEA also carries a larger rectangular area rug in this design.

Nattslanda Duvet Cover And Pillowcase, Floral Pattern Multicolor

Twin size, $44.99 CAD

This is such a pretty pattern for a girl’s room. The crisp white background and pretty flowers give this duvet cover such a fresh feeling. I would use this bedding in spring and summer, paired with white sheets and a colourful throw blanket (green or yellow from the pattern).

Nattslanda Duvet Cover And Pillowcase, Grey With White Daisies

Twin size, $34.99 CAD

This is another really pretty twin duvet cover. If you prefer neutrals, this one is beautiful and pairs perfectly with white décor. The design is cute and simple and would suit all ages.

This duvet cover has a polished look you might find in a boutique hotel. The white colour is crisp and classic and the black trim adds sophistication and polish. This set would look lovely with white sheets, monogrammed pillow shams and a Hermes-style blanket. I would accessorize with classic accents such as a gold lamp, potted orchids, and cloth-bound books. Vankrets Duvet Cover And Pillowcase

Can you tell that I am loving IKEA’s new bedding sets? I adore everything with a windowpane pattern and these sheets are perfectly on point with this trend. And what a bargain this is with a price tag under $20 for a 100% cotton duvet cover and pillowcase. This set is perfect for a boy’s room or for a girl who likes a more graphic, simple look. I will be purchasing these for my teen boy. His room is in need of a little update and I think this duvet cover is a great starting point. You can also purchase this set in full/queen and king sizes. Kvastfibbla Duvet Cover And Pillowcase(s)

Full/Queen, $29.99

If you love blue or animal print this fun bedding set might be just for you. I think this adorable set would look perfect with bright pink and gold accents, but it would also be pretty with neutrals. As with most of the other duvet sets, I would pair this set with white sheets and use more vibrant colours for accents like throw pillows, blankets, and artwork. Note that this set is currently unavailable/sold out.

Vallasan Bath Towel

70 by 140 cm, $9.99 CAD

This bath towel comes in such a pretty earth-toned taupe. These towels are made of a super-absorbent cotton-vicose blend and have a carefree bohemian look. I think they would be very pretty in a guest bathroom that is modern and full of plants. This design is also available in face towels, hand towels, and bath sheets.

Malinda Chair Pad

40/35 cm width, 38 cm depth, 7 cm thickness, $9.99 CAD

I adore these chair pads and nearly purchased them last week for our IKEA Ingolf kitchen chairs. The only thing holding me back was the thought of my kids spilling spaghetti sauce or chocolate sauce on them. They are not the most forgiving colour, but they are beautiful. I have purchased these covers many times over in different (darker) colours and they are well cushioned and fit the Ingolf chairs perfectly.

Baskets

Insvep Basket, Seagrass

This pretty seagrass basket has a beachy vibe and simple, clean lines. It looks like a quality piece and has a generous size. I could see this basket being used to house firewood or blankets for the winter months. You could also insert a plastic plant holder in it to give your plants a polished look. It could also be used as a small laundry basket for young children or for delicates.

Insvep Basket With Handles

37 cm diameter, 40 cm height, $27.99 CAD

This basket has a more open weave pattern and is fairly small. It’s more of a wastebasket size, but is not practical for a wastebasket since the contents would be on full displays from all angles. I would use it as a toy basket (for stuffed animals), for rolled bath towels, or for my knitting yarn.

Insvep Basket, Water Hyacinth

51 cm length, 36 cm width, 43 cm height, $39.99 CAD

This water hyacinth basket has a perfectly lovely shape. It’s the classic basket to take to the farmer’s market or for a picturesque picnic. I could see it on a kitchen table or island with a bunch of fresh or faux flowers spilling out.

Natade Wire Basket With Handles

28 by 28 by 12 cm, $14.99 CAD

This black metal basket has an industrial feel, but would also work well in a farmhouse or cottage setting. It is a small basket that could be used to display small items like dinner napkins or cups with cutlery for a picnic or BBQ. You could also use it to store cleaning supplies or other items that you don’t want to be enclosed. The basket can also be purchased in a round design and a smaller (22 cm) square size.

Fallenhet Vase

This medium-sized vase has a minimalist style that would suit many décor styles, including farmhouse and cottage styles. It’s perfectly sized for a large bunch of flowers or floral arrangement. The simple, white colour makes it appropriate for any season. Additionally, it’s affordable enough to give as an inexpensive gift with a bouquet of fresh flowers from the garden or market.

Ekoln Soap Dispenser

This soap dispenser has clean, modern lines and is the perfect size for use in the bathroom. The smoky grey-green colour is on point and has a modern vibe. This soap dispenser comes in two other lovely neutral shades and is part of a coordinating bathroom collection that includes a toothbrush holder and waste bin.

Frikostig Mug

12 oz size, $3.49 CAD

I love these new IKEA mugs. If you love neutrals with a little punch of character, these may be just what you’re looking for. The creamy white ceramic looks great with the banded abstract pattern reminiscent of a vine or stem with leaves. Ikea mugs are always a great price and very durable. You can also purchase coordinating side plates and bowls.

What’s In My Shopping Cart?

I just purchased several plant pots, the Gradvis and Boysenbar. They aren’t brand new, so are not included in this post. From the new releases, I plan to purchase at least one Lommarp Cabinet for our basement renovation and perhaps some of the coordinating shelves too. As mentioned earlier in this post, I plan to purchase the Vankrets Duvet Cover And Pillowcase for my oldest son’s room. I’m always on the lookout for new IKEA products and that’s why I wanted to share my latest finds with you all.
