In the past, IKEA published a catalogue every year, and I would eagerly spend a few hours devouring its pages, looking for inspiration and plotting future purchases. Even though IKEA has stopped publishing a yearly catalogue, I still spend an afternoon in January scouring the IKEA website for the best new products. This is usually followed by a visit to the store to see the new products firsthand and to purchase a few items. Is it even possible to visit IKEA without purchasing something? I’m excited to share that this year there are hundreds of beautiful and functional new products and dozens that I’m really excited about. In today’s post, The Best New IKEA Products of 2024, I’m sharing 40 of my personal favourites. I am not affiliated with IKEA and all opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Product Availability
Last year, in my post, The Best New IKEA Products For 2023, I noted that IKEA was still experiencing some product shortages as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts on manufacturing, shipping, and employment. Product availability seems to have improved again this year, though there are product shortages in some stores. If the item you want is currently out of stock, you can be assured that most items will become available within weeks or months. You can sign up to receive stock notifications if you click on the “notify me” link on the IKEA website. I recommend doing this as it is the easiest way to get the out-of-stock IKEA item you’re looking for.
The Best New IKEA Products of 2024
Soft Furnishings
I was impressed with the new additions in the soft furnishings department- sofas and upholstered chairs. I was especially pleased to see options for disguised sleep solutions, such as daybeds and chairs that fold out to reveal a mattress. There was less in the way of new hard furnishings for living spaces, such as coffee and side tables, media and storage units, and shelving.
This attractive, affordable, cozy, and practical sofa is available in several colours including the new Hillared dark blue colour. I love that it is a large family-size sofa at a very affordable price. It would fit right into a farmhouse style, cottage style, or relaxed traditional style home. This will most likely be the next IKEA sofa I purchase.
You can also purchase the Uppland sofa with chaise, which makes this an even cozier option. I just love how the dark blue colour looks with white or light beige walls and neutral-toned furnishings. Did I mention that the cover is removable for washing? That’s an essential feature in a busy household.
The Hyltarp sofa has a sleek silhouette and modern styling. It’s also affordable and comes in 10 colours. The cover is removable and machine washable and is made of a fabric that resembles natural linen. It would fit into modern style homes, modern farmhouse, and even updated traditional homes.
Sleep Solutions
If you live in a smaller home but still want sleep options for visiting guests, you’ll want to investigate these two new sleep solutions from IKEA.
This is a comfy, slipper-style chair that folds out to a bed similar in size to a twin bed (it’s slightly narrower). It comes in many colour options and could work in homes with a modern or farmhouse style. We used to visit my grandparents several times a year, and since they only had two guest bedrooms, clever sleep solutions were essential. They had a chair much like this that I slept on for many years of visits when I was a teenager.
Hemnes Daybed with 3 Drawers and 2 Mattresses
This is one I’m considering for our new basement home office. With an abundance of throw pillows, this would make a great spot for reading. The magic of this piece is that it can be used in the current configuration as a twin bed, but can also pull out to form a double bed. Plus, it has three storage drawers.
I saw it set up with bedding and pillows when I visited IKEA last month with my friend Fran and it looked super cute.
Dining Chairs
This is a very decent farmhouse-style chair at a good price. I like the simple yet interesting styling and the rich matte black colour. I have always liked the wood chairs that IKEA makes as they are durable and long-lasting. We’ve had our IKEA kitchen chairs for 14 years, which are still going strong. These chairs would pair beautifully with a wood table in light-medium-toned wood. They would also look great with a black table or a table with black accents, for example, a table with a black base and a wood-toned top. These chairs have a distinct farmhouse style and would work in a farmhouse or country or cottage-style home. They could also work in a modern setting if paired with a minimalist table.
If you love modern decor and sculptural shapes, then perhaps the Krylbo Chair is a good option for you. The neutral tones and curved lines make this modern chair look warm and cozy. They are also quite comfortable. The downside is that they are not easily washable, so not ideal in a home with children or messy eaters. These chairs would look great in a modern or mid-century modern style home.
These are quite beautiful chairs at a fraction of the cost you’d see in higher-end stores like Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel. I love the clean lines and neutral finishes. The fabric cover is removable for machine washing which is a must-have feature in a home with kids. These chairs would look great in a formal dining room in a traditional or transitional style home.
Dining Tables
I love the simple yet interesting lines of this table. It’s a farmhouse table with a bit of a twist, making it workable in homes with a wide range of decor styles, from traditional to farmhouse to modern eclectic styles. The black finish is graphic and bold and would make a statement in any kitchen or dining room. It comes in two other finishes but the black is my favourite for maximum style and impact. It has smaller dimensions and would be best suited to a smaller dining space.
This table made the cut for its extendable practicality and the pretty curved table skirt detail. If you have a small space but need the option of a larger table then this may be the decor solution for you. It could work as a kitchen/dining table or as a craft table. The white finish is crisp and clean-looking.
Storage
IKEA is known for its numerous stylish storage solutions. This year, I found a few useful and lovely smaller storage solutions for your home.
This lovely bamboo storage bench was exactly what I was looking for three months ago when I was putting the finishing touches on our basement yoga, meditation, and exercise room. It has a removable pad on top that is perfect if you plan to use this as an exercise bench for lifting weights. The hidden storage is plentiful and could be used to store exercise equipment. Alternatively, if you remove the pad on top, this bench could be used in a front hall or mudroom. In this case, the storage compartment could be used for shoes or seasonal accessories. You could even use this bench as a coffee table! I just love the versatility of IKEA design.
I really like the simplicity of these cotton storage baskets. Displayed en masse, I think they would make a great design statement. They could be used to store linens, children’s toys, craft supplies, and many other things.
IKEA has come out with a clever storage system that can be used for storing a variety of things. They would be useful for garbage and recycling or for cleaning or gardening supplies. I fell in love with the green colour and ribbed design. I just need to think of a use for them in our home, since we already have an integrated garbage and recycling system.
Textiles- Cushion Covers
IKEA is my go-to source for affordable and pretty 20″ by 20″ pillows and inserts. They are always a fraction of the price you’d pay elsewhere. IKEA has come out with some really pretty designs this year. When I visited our local IKEA store last month, I loved how they displayed textiles and other home goods on a shelf in the store.
The colour and pattern are gorgeous and it is compatible with many home decor styles, from farmhouse to traditional to country cottage. The insert and cushion cover are purchased separately which is a great way to save money and storage space if you like to switch out your pillows often.
I like the tactile design of these cushion covers. They kind of remind me of bubble wrap which everyone knows is very satisfying tactilely. I could see these in a child’s or teen’s bedroom mixed with other pillows for a fun effect.
This cushion cover has a pretty floral design in soft pastel shades. I could see myself using this for Easter decor as the soft blues, pinks, and greens would tie in with the soft shades of hand-painted Easter eggs. This pillow has a definite country style and would also be nice in a traditional home or granny chic style home.
I always love a good plaid and this one by IKEA is nicely done with the on-trend neutrals and bold checked stripes. This pillow would look nice in a traditional or farmhouse-style home or a masculine space like a den or office decorated in black and white.

Textiles- Throws and Tablecloths
Waffle weave throws are one of my favourite styles because they are warm without being bulky. They also look great folded up or displayed on a blanket ladder. This IKEA throw is in the perfect mid-tone shade of blue and has a lovely fringed edge and raw sides. IKEA throws are also some of the most affordable ones I’ve seen anywhere and this one is no exception.
I discovered wipeable tablecloths last summer and I’m completely sold. I like this one and others like it because they are thick and durable and also have a decent drape to them so it’s not so obvious that they are coated. This design is fun and would be great to take on a picnic or camping.
Sorgmantel Duvet Cover and Pillowcase
IKEA has the absolute best prices for duvet covers and they come out with several new options every year. I think this Sormantel set is very pretty and fresh-looking for spring. The simple two-tone design is lovely. It comes in twin, full/Queen, and King sizes.
I adore this cozy throw. It is perfect for late summer and fall with its caramel colour and brushed texture. The oversized plaid pattern is modern and classic at the same time. I would use this in any room with a fireplace to double up on the cozy factor.
Rugs and Doormats
IKEA often has good rugs and doormats though the selection can be limited. I particularly liked the doormats this year with a variety of designs to choose from.
This natural jute rug is priced quite low for such a large size. Since it’s flatwoven, it would need a non-slip pad underneath to prevent it from shifting and to give it a little more cushioning. I love jute rugs in spaces where you want to feel a little more casual and beachy. A formal space becomes less stuffy and more inviting with the addition of a jute rug like this. For another affordable alternative, Amazon has a great selection of non-shedding jute/sisal rugs. My favourite one is linked here.
This rug is perfect if you’re looking for a simple and natural jute rug. This rug comes in a 2′ by 2’11” size.
I think this design is adorable. I was planning on purchasing it on my recent trip to IKEA but sadly it was not in stock. It would be perfect for Valentine’s Day or if you’re just a person who loves hearts. This rug only seems to come in a small 1’4″ by 2’4″ size.
I did see this beautiful rug in person at IKEA recently and the darker shade is a lovely deep blue colour. The photos on the IKEA website look more black to me, however the description does indicated that the darker colour is blue. This rug comes in a 2′ by 2’11” size.
Dinnerware
I have always been a fan of IKEA dinnerware for its durability and style. IKEA always manages to add some pretty detail to dishes or create them in an interesting colour or finish.
Strimmig 18-Piece Dinnerware Set
If you’re looking for a white dinnerware set, I recommend this one. The plates all have pretty ridged detailing around the perimeter and the bowls are an interesting and unusual shape. This set includes six dinner plates, six salad plates and six bowls. This would be the perfect set for a family of five or six. Most sets seem to come in a set of 4 so families of 5 or six usually have to buy two sets of four.
The colour and shape of this bowl are pretty and feminine and reminiscent of vintage jadeite.
Glassware
IKEA glassware is always a good value. I like the variety of styles and colours they usually carry. I was happy to see a few great elevated basics added to their collection this year.
The Reko Clear Glasses are a great deal and very functional with their clever stackable design. It seems like there’s never enough cupboard space for glasses, so anything that will help save that precious real estate is a huge plus. These glasses are made of a sturdy clear glass and are perfect for everyday use. Amazon also sells a nearly identical set here.
The Vardagen glasses are right on trend with the fluted design. They would be perfect for everyday use or entertaining. I think they could be used for water, juice, soda, milkshakes, or even a special drink that would normally be served in a tall glass. If you prefer Amazon, this is the link for a nearly identical set.
These goblets have a refined design with the light brown colour, fluted glass, and a pretty footed base. These are affordable goblets that could be used for entertaining and more formal dining. The colour is particularly suited to fall tablescapes and other warm colours.
Wall Art
IKEA artwork is often one of the first things I look at when I’m scoping out the year’s newest products. In recent years, I haven’t been as impressed with IKEA artwork as I was in the past. However, there are a couple of new vintage style prints that I love.
This pair of vintage-inspired Lily prints is authentic looking with lovely vintage print colours. These posters could be displayed as a pair or individually. I recommend purchasing the IKEA frames as they are good value and size precisely for their artwork. I think these prints would look lovely with a black frame and displayed in a garden-inspired room, library, hallway, or living room.

This set of prints from IKEA is very charming. The herb garden print has a black background and the vegetable garden print has a vintage beige background, but the pair work together nicely. They have a graphic appeal that would work in a modern farmhouse or traditional style home. I would display them in a kitchen or potting shed/room.
Accessories
I think this vase is the perfect shade of blue. The textured surface is also very unique and would make a great statement in any space. The pop of colour would really stand out in a neutral home with white, light beige, or grey walls. And you could display white, yellow, purple, blue, or pink flowers to great effect in this vase.
Baskets are another item that I routinely purchase from IKEA. This basket has a very pleasing shape and lovely woven design. The curved handles are a great practical and aesthetic feature. At 35 cm tall, this basket could be used as a waste paper basket or to store items such as wrapping paper or toys. It’s a bit too small to use as a laundry hamper.
Plants and Gardening
IKEA has really upped their game with respect to gardening accessories. I’ve always loved their planters, but this year they have some cleverly designed and useful accessories.
This potting mat is a genius idea. How many times have you tried repotting a plant indoors only to end up with soil everywhere? It seems to happen to me every time. A mat like this would surely limit the mess and make cleanup a whole lot easier.
Daksjus Self-Watering Plant Pot
This self-watering plant pot is as cute as a muffin tin. I can imagine this pot planted with kitchen herbs. The self-watering feature is great for terra cotta pots as they tend to dry out quickly, especially in the warmer months. I also love the colour combination of natural terra cotta and the vintage sage green.
If you’re looking for a classic white pot at a great price, this is it. IKEA excels at designing and making lovely and affordable plant pots as you can see with the Ambraroenn pot. I would use this with real or faux plants and it could be used indoors or outdoors in spring and summer.
This plant stand would be a useful and decorative addition to a potting area or garden to organize gardening supplies or to display a variety of plants. The two layers make it a great space-saving option.
Finally, this gardening apron is a must-have item for all gardeners to keep seeds and garden tools organized and clothing protected from dirt. This would make a great gift for a friend, teacher, or anyone you know who gardens or would like to start gardening.
Children’s Decor
Broback Bjoerktrast Chair with Cushion
My final item of the best new IKEA products of 2024 is a child’s chair. This cute design is just as charming in person and would be a sweet addition to a child’s bedroom or playroom. The lovely cushion is fresh and modern and I love the textural back on the chair. This chair would look especially good in a whimsical or modern child’s room.
What Did I Purchase This Week from IKEA?
For the last three years, I have made a commitment to buy less. For us, the benefits include reducing clutter, being more environmentally conscious, and saving money for the things that are important to us at this time. We are at a stage in our lives where our children are beginning to head off to university and we would also like to travel more.
That being said, I just had a marvellous trip to IKEA with my friend Fran, and we couldn’t resist some of the new IKEA items on this list. I purchased paper napkins because they are so practical for picnics, camping, and family gatherings. We generally use cloth napkins for everyday family use, however, there are definitely times when paper napkins come in handy. I also purchased a cute woven napkin holder that fits their larger square napkins perfectly. Additionally, I found a lovely blue plant pot and a pair of the Idalinnea cushion covers I mentioned in the textile section of this post.
